Who we are

Bronte Local operates brontelocal.com.au and publishes The Local Bulletin, a fortnightly email newsletter. We are subject to the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You can reach us at hello@brontelocal.com.au.

What we collect

We collect your email address when you subscribe to The Local Bulletin. If you choose to receive SMS alerts, we also collect your mobile number. This is entirely optional. If you contact us about advertising, we collect your name, business, email address, mobile number, business type and any message you send.

We also collect anonymous usage data via Google Analytics: pages visited, device type and approximate location. This data is not linked to your identity.

Some email addresses on our list were collected through Linktree before this site launched.

How we use it

We use your email to send The Local Bulletin and related updates. If you opt in to SMS, we use your mobile number only to send occasional time-sensitive local alerts and SMS-only offers you agreed to receive. We use advertising enquiry details only to reply to you about advertising.

We do not sell your information. We share it only with the services listed below, to run this site and our ads, and where the law requires it.

Services we use

We use a small number of other services to run this site. They may receive your device's IP address when you visit, and, for the forms, the details you submit: Netlify (hosting, and the signup and enquiry forms), Google Analytics and Google Fonts (analytics and typefaces), Open-Meteo (weather and swell data), and Behold and Instagram (the photo grid). Each has its own privacy policy.

Advertising on Facebook and Instagram

We advertise The Local Bulletin on Facebook and Instagram, which are run by Meta. To do that we may use Meta advertising tools on this site, including the Meta pixel. If we do, Meta can collect information about your visit, such as the pages you view and the actions you take after clicking one of our ads, and may use it to measure our ads, show you our ads, and improve its own services.

If you sign up through a Meta lead form, Meta collects what you enter and passes it to us. We may also upload our subscriber email list to Meta, in a scrambled (hashed) form, so we can show our ads to people who already subscribe or to people similar to them, or leave subscribers out of ads aimed at new readers. You can ask us to leave your email out of any upload by writing to us.

You can control the ads you see, and opt out of ad personalisation, in your Meta ad settings and in your browser or device settings.

Cookies

This site uses cookies for analytics (Google Analytics) and essential site functions. If we use the Meta pixel, it also uses cookies to measure and improve our ads. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings; some features may then not work.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time via the link in any email, and opt out of SMS by replying STOP to any message. You may also request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, including an advertising enquiry, by emailing hello@brontelocal.com.au. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
